My name is Mathew Sharp and I am a writer and communicator based in Sydney, Australia.

Where do I begin? I am passionate about storytelling.

My interests, particularly on this site, showcase the development, growth, and decline, of public transport across Australia, with expertise in my home state of Tasmania. Through the understanding of historical contexts, I want to inform and educate on where and how transport systems, travel behaviours, and public policy has evolved, and what opportunities or gaps exist.

I am also a big advocate for public transport, and use my skills in media, communications, policy, and finance, to build a picture on where Australian transport and urban planning is going.

My experience includes working in public transport planning at Transport for New South Wales, having some internships with News Corp Australia and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, banking at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and service in the Australian Defence Force.

Outside of transport, I enjoy analogue and digital photography, videography, music, creative and dramatic arts, exploring nature, letter writing, and history. I am also a fiction writer!

My qualifications are a Graduate Certificate in Transport from the University of Sydney, and Bachelors in Arts and Commerce from Deakin University, with majors in journalism and finance. I also have completed the Certificate of Transport Management and Railway Planning and Operations Program through Sydney University’s Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies, as well Movement and Place through the University of Technology Sydney. I have a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management from Monash University, and a Certificate III in Financial Services from the Commonwealth Bank.

I am a Non-Executive Director for the Australian Railway Historical Society NSW, and an expert member on the City of Hobart portfolio committee for transport.
